I had to take a break from the Do You Compute-related nostalgia listening this week. Too much of that music puts me in the mindset of twenty-year-old me. After a stressful day at work, I found that listening to angry music was making me... more angry! And the slowcore stuff was making me more depressed. Go figure. Not helpful at all.
I've kind of been floating from record to record for the last few weeks; no one album holding my attention for long. It was refreshing to pick up a couple older albums in the Karen Dalton and Emit Rhodes (the former picked by my brilliant wife), since I've felt so embroiled in 90s indie lately. Also finally heard Yellow House in its entirety for the first time, now that the Grizzly Bear catalog is available at eMusic. I like it, it's nice, it's still not hitting me in the way it seems to hit so many other people. Kind of makes me want to listen to Vashti Bunyan instead. But hey, I'll give it more than one listen before I hold firm to that kind of opinion.
