Avert your eyes from the many end-of-year lists and join me this Thursday at the Mandrake Bar in Culver City to celebrate the release of Spiderland, even though technically it's been out for about a month. I don't get out much, so indulge me. Friends, "friends," strangers, and fellow Slint fans are all invited. My friends from the Cargo Culte will be spinning 90s indie/post-rock for the night. Beer, books, and 90s nostalgia! It's hard to do better. The best part is there will be a bunch of bloggers there so even if you're not online, you can still argue about whether the mediocre Arcade Fire album or the hit-and-miss Deerhunter album or the consistently good but rarely awesome LCD Soundsystem album are the best of the year. You don't have to live in two worlds!
